Greensboro, N.C. – When you walk into the sensory room at Gillespie Park Elementary, you find comfortable seats, engaging toys and smiling students. The students that use this space are in the adaptive class and with a uniquely tailored curriculum, their strengths truly shine.  

 

Michael Haynes is part of the magic as the adaptive curriculum teacher at Gillespie. He is devoted to cultivating an environment where not only do his students feel secure, but the families do too.  

 

"Mr. Haynes consistently demonstrates excellence through his dedication, patience, and genuine commitment to his students," wrote parent Kim Wilson.  

 

"As a parent of a child in his EC Adaptive Curriculum classroom, I have seen firsthand how he works to make every student feel safe, supported, included, and capable of succeeding. He recognizes that each child has individual strengths and needs and goes above and beyond to help them grow academically, socially, and personally. Even when faced with classroom staffing challenges, Mr. Haynes continues to show up for his students with a positive attitude and a true teamwork mindset. He communicates with families, welcomes collaboration, and makes parents feel like valued members of their child’s educational team. His compassion and dedication make a meaningful difference not only for his students, but also for their families. We are incredibly grateful to have Mr. Haynes in our children’s lives." 

 

The difference Haynes makes in the lives of his students culminated in his recognition as Employee of the Month for October. He entered the sensory room to the applause and cheers of his colleagues with his students smiling at his side.  

 

Haynes received a $100 gift card courtesy of the Greensboro Jaycees. During the month of October, his photo will be displayed at Gillespie Park Elementary, the district’s central offices and in the Greensboro Jaycees office.
